Your VPN encryption key is generated on your device and stored in the macOS Keychain. The private key never leaves your Mac — only your public key is registered so the VPN server can accept your connection.
The VPN kill switch is enforced at the operating-system level, so if the encrypted tunnel drops, your traffic is blocked rather than leaking onto an untrusted network. It fails closed, not open — the way a security product should.
